Important?
Starting in 2025 (for 2024 data), the EU has mandated the disclosure of information on risks and opportunities related to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, with a double focus on mutual impact of their activities on people and the environment and vice versa. The CSRD enhances the breadth, depth and robustness of sustainability reporting under the NFRD, the EU’s legacy ESG reporting programme. It incorporates the categories beyond just carbon; like pollution, water, waste, and biodiversity. The CSRD reporting is done using the standards and framework defined in the European Sustainability Reporting Standard (ESRS). It guides the topics on which an organisation’s CSRD reporting is required. Disclosures on these topics should be included the annual reports along with the financials and are subjected to audit requirements.
